Chicago Fire FC (3-2-2, 11 points) faced a tough 2-1 defeat to New York Red Bulls (3-2-2, 11 points) on Saturday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The match saw both teams trading counterattacks in a fast-paced first half, but it was Chicago who struck first. Philip Zinckernagel launched a counterattack, playing a quick pass to Hugo Cuypers, who fed it back to Zinckernagel for a breakaway. Zinckernagel then assisted Jonathan Bamba, who finished coolly from the left as the defense closed in.

New York quickly responded with a goal of their own. Wingback Omar Valencia found space on the left and sent a precise cross into the box, where Serge Ngoma met it with a header to equalize for the Red Bulls. The game took another turn just before halftime when New York was awarded a penalty. Dylan Nealis was fouled inside the box, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting calmly converted the penalty, giving the Red Bulls a 2-1 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Chicago looked to find an equalizer, but New York’s defense held strong. Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel was especially instrumental in preserving the lead, making several key saves. Despite their efforts, Chicago couldn’t break through, and the match ended with a 2-1 victory for the Red Bulls.
