Austin FC earned a season-opening 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium.
Austin FC was at its strongest during the first half of the match. Three of the top players almost scored in the first half. Brandon V, Owen W, and Guilherme all had the opportunity but went into halftime empty-handed.
The Home team kept up their pressure and were eventually rewarded for their attacking play with a goal in the 76th minute. Wolff delivered a corner kick, which Bukari headed in at the far post. Vazquez nearly extended the lead moments later when his powerful shot hit the crossbar.
With Austin FC in the lead with one goal, that didn’t stop the visiting team from trying their hardest to try and potentially try and score—the ref gave 3 added minutes to the match over time.
Fortunately, the home team stayed in the lead with 1-0 and opened the season with a win giving the team 3 points for the start of the season.
