Chicago Fire FC earned a 2-1 victory over Atlanta United FC on Saturday afternoon at Soldier Field, improving their record to 4-4-4 and collecting their first home win of the 2025 regular season. Hugo Cuypers opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 14th minute after a handball in the box, marking his eighth goal of the season and taking the lead in the MLS goal-scoring charts.
The Fire maintained their 1-0 advantage until late in the second half when Atlanta found an equalizer in the 80th minute. A cross from Alexey Miranchuk deflected off Sam Rogers and ended up in the back of the net, catching Fire goalkeeper Jeff Gal off guard and leveling the score just as the game seemed headed for a dramatic finish.
In response, Chicago made key substitutions that changed the game’s course. Midfielders Rominigue Kouamé, Maren Haile-Selassie, and Omari Glasgow combined in the 86th minute for the game-winning goal. Haile-Selassie’s through ball found Glasgow, who assisted Kouamé for his second goal of the season. Chicago then managed possession effectively during stoppage time to secure the win and three valuable points.
